Bond Laser: From Jinan to the World, a Champion of China’s Intelligent Manufacturing

In the heart of Jinan, Shandong Province, Bond Laser Technology Co., Ltd. (commonly known as “Bond Laser”) is quietly redefining the global laser processing industry. Founded in 2008, the company has grown into a world-leading provider of intelligent laser processing solutions, employing more than 3,000 people and serving customers in over 180 countries and regions. From 2019 to 2024, Bond Laser achieved a rare milestone: six consecutive years ranked No.1 worldwide in sales of high-power (1,000W and above) laser cutting machines.

Championing Innovation Amid Global Headwinds

Bond Laser’s rise coincides with a period of turbulence for the global laser industry. According to the 2025 China Laser Industry Development Report, global sales revenue of laser equipment reached $21.8 billion in 2024, with China contributing 56.6% of that total. Yet, the sector also faced challenges: the Chinese market contracted by 1.4%, and laser cutting equipment revenue dropped 5.1% to RMB 30.43 billion.

In this competitive and shrinking environment, Bond Laser expanded its market share to 10.3% in China—ranking first nationwide—and maintained its global leadership. Analysts attribute this to the company’s unrelenting focus on independent R&D, product innovation, and international expansion.

Breaking Through Technology Barriers

Laser processing once relied heavily on imported components, with foreign suppliers controlling key technologies such as laser sources and cutting heads. Bond Laser chose a different path: deep investment in core technologies. Over the past 17 years, the company has invested nearly RMB 1 billion in R&D, securing more than 900 patents. Its innovations range from ultra-high-power lasers to precision CNC systems and intelligent control platforms.

Bond Laser is also credited with pioneering new categories in the industry, including the “laser scanning cutting machine.” Today, it independently manufactures all three of its core components—laser heads, laser sources, and operating systems—achieving full supply chain autonomy.

Government support has reinforced this trajectory. Backed by Jinan’s strong industrial base and favorable policies from Licheng District, Bond Laser has participated in three major provincial science and technology innovation projects. Its annual R&D spending has grown at more than 30% year-on-year over the past five years.

Precision and Quality Recognition

Bond Laser’s commitment to quality runs from design through after-sales. The company developed its own QMS (Quality Management System), giving each laser device and component a digital “ID card” to enable full lifecycle traceability.

This relentless pursuit of excellence has won global recognition. In 2025, Bond Laser made history by becoming the first laser processing company to receive the Red Dot “Best of the Best” award, the highest honor in industrial design. Three of its products—including a new laser welding machine, sheet metal laser cutter, and tube cutting machine—earned Red Dot Awards, with the welding machine receiving the prestigious top prize.

Expanding Globally, Powered by Talent

Bond Laser’s global strategy has been equally ambitious. Through its wholly-owned subsidiary “Chasing Light, Pursuing Dreams Investment Co.,” the company has consolidated ownership of its subsidiaries in Germany, the U.S., Korea, and Hungary. These moves, approved by Shandong’s Development and Reform Commission, underscore its determination to strengthen its overseas operations.

Meanwhile, the company has doubled down on talent development. Partnering with Shandong University, Jilin University, and institutes under the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Bond Laser has built a pipeline of top-tier optical and engineering talent. The Licheng District government has further supported this effort through subsidies, housing stipends, and talent incentives.

“Talent is the bridge between innovation and digital transformation,” said the company’s management. “We see people as our most valuable resource in building a global champion brand.”

A Jinan Success Story in “Champion Manufacturing”

Bond Laser’s rise also reflects Jinan’s broader industrial transformation. The city now hosts 87 municipal-level, 114 provincial-level, and 23 national-level “single-item champion” enterprises—firms that dominate niche markets through deep specialization. With its complete industrial system spanning 41 major categories, Jinan has become fertile ground for such champions to thrive.

As the city rolls out its “13+34” industrial chain development strategy and accelerates the construction of a national SME digital transformation center, firms like Bond Laser are positioned to lead China’s next phase of advanced manufacturing.

Prospect Analysis

Bond Laser has set itself an ambitious target with its “Billion-Yuan Journey” launched in 2024, aiming to upgrade its products, services, and brand under the motto “Champion Quality, Champion Service, Champion Global Leadership.”

“From precision cuts smaller than a needle’s eye to powering global industry, we are committed to driving China’s intelligent manufacturing forward,” said Liu Jianqiang, General Manager of Bond Laser’s Production Center. “Our mission is to lead with innovation, quality, and smart solutions.”

As the global laser industry undergoes restructuring, Bond Laser’s blend of innovation, quality, and international vision positions it not only as Jinan’s pride but also as a new benchmark for China’s “intelligent manufacturing” on the world stage.
